Incidentally, if anyone wants to guess which stories I wrote for Yuletide (people I've told about it/who betaed for me obvs. disqualified), go to it. I'll write you a fic if you get one right. I wrote three stories, two full-length and one in the Madness collection. Comments are screened, or will be as soon as I get to the option. |

[the scene: The dining room we don't actually eat in, where we have the tree up. We're opening presents. There's a for-the-whole-family present from my sister and brother-in-law, which I gave to Mom since she'd had the least to open so far.] Mom: ::opens the DVD-shaped package:: ...Well. That's an interesting choice. me: What? Mom: ::holds up Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog:: me: ...XD XD XD
Other goodies include a D20 dog tag, Jelly Babies and Pocky, pens and a case for them, a pin from the Hard Rock Cafe in Cardiff (SHEEP PLAYING GUITAR!), a... Sid-from-Ice Age Pez dispenser(???????), Barnes and Noble money, and plain old money. And the yuletide fic of awesome. A v. tiny rec list is forthcoming. |

noooo, Little Archive That Could, let me comment on my Yuletide present and TELL THE AUTHOR HOW AWESOME IT IS. (I got Warehouse 13. Claudia saves the day + Artifacts from the Titanic = EVERYONE WINS.) |

[Dec. 23rd, 2009|03:46 pm] |
GIP and subject line brought to you by last night's funtimes. (I am so glad I gave into the temptation.) And now, for something completely different: 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' is a bloody weird song. "Merry Christmas! NOW GIVE ME SOME DAMN DESSERT OR I WON'T LEAVE YOU ALONE, I CAN WAIT ALL DAY." (I am also so glad tomorrow's the likely end of the Christmas music at work.) Also also, there is a yuletide story up in [tiny fandom I nominated]! Whether it's my request or the other requester's, I don't know, BUT EITHER WAY. On that note, I think I should be off to Borders. Weather's likely to be sucktastic tomorrow, or I'd go after work then. |

[Dec. 18th, 2009|07:03 pm] |
Barring someone calling off, I... appear to have a weekend off. I think that's the first time that's happened since I got the job. Did some Christmas shopping after work; more to come Sunday. Haven't decided between Oxford or Borders (or both, but they're in opposite directions, is the thing) yet. Dad turned on Andrew Bird on his iPod, on the drive home from dinner last night. That... seemed to be exactly what I needed, so I'm following suit on the big computer tonight. I do not, as predicted, miss the dog howling because OMG THERE ARE VIOLINS.
yuletide uploading is up! I've got my assignment and Yulebunny posted; now it's back to poking at the next Yulebunny. (Which is terrifying because [character] says things like [COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS PHRASE] and I might have to capture that and I'm not sure I can. But it's one of the things I love most about [fandom], so! Cryptic parenthetical is cryptic.) |

On the bright side, I have clearance to squee about a little something now. That good news I mentioned Thursday? I'm getting published again. It's a donation to the next I Do anthology, so I don't get more payment than a warm fuzzy feeling, but that's all right. The warm fuzzy feeling is quite awesome, and very very necessary right now, what with everything. So there's that, at least. |

[Dec. 15th, 2009|07:05 pm] |
So that's that, then. So long and thanks for all the fish, Jack who should have been Fidget and was often Stupid. (And that 'should have been Fidget' part is part of why it's sucked so much; this was not a dog designed for inaction, and he was barely moving.) Be a dog, dog. |

[Dec. 13th, 2009|09:24 pm] |
Poor dog's had a busy day; people have been visiting, sort of a last vigil thinger. And he's feeling it. And there's a lump on his hip that I'm pretty sure wasn't there a few days ago.
Tuesday's going to suck. |

| stiff upper lip for all this sorrow |
[Dec. 12th, 2009|04:29 pm] |
Today is less awesome. (We're not talking about this morning. ::EPIC FACEPALM::) I have a sinking feeling we're going to put the dog down next week; my money's on Tuesday, that being Dad's day off. He's in denial about it, as he usually is when it comes to dogs, but going to Egypt won't help anyone. And much as I say I won't miss certain aspects of the dog... we've had him since I was eleven. So it still sucks. And the job hunt sucks, and I think I'm PMSing, and... really, there's not much I can do about a lot of things. Trying to figure out what my getyourwordsout pledge for next year will be, since I'd like to do it again. I might do a single-project one, since I really do need to get cracking on Vincenia and environs. And now, work. |

[Dec. 10th, 2009|08:24 pm] |
So. I'm not at a basketball game (Miami-UC tonight), nor am I at a concert (Barenaked Ladies et al at the Taft). But that's okay. My yuletide fic is back from beta and approved, that was some of the fastest app turnaround I've seen in ages, and I got some other good news today - full squee will be divulged later, on that front. So I'm calling it a good day. (Subject line is from a thing on the radio this evening: Christmas carols to the tune of The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Between the overdose of Christmas carols at work and the fact that the song works best in small, infrequent doses... I approve.) |

* hogswatchfic is open for business; sign-ups run until the 13th, and fics are due the 31st. If you missed Yuletide/are avoiding it/just want to write Generic Winter Holidays fic for someone, give it a go! *Snow on the ground and my profile! Thanks, gehayi! *I'm passing up a concert on Thursday, partly because I first heard about it Saturday. I'd love to see BNL again, but they're sharing the bill with three other bands, so it's not really a sound investment. *Heat's been down at work, which is where the subject line comes in. Yesterday there were space heaters, which made it better; I'm hoping it'll be functional again when I go back Wednesday. *And now... the dog. ( in which the news is not surprising, but still sucks ) *Yuletide assignment might be finished. I need to type it up and assemble a beta squad before I know for sure. Oh, [fandom], how I've missed you. *But first, I need to assemble something to go with quinby's birthday card. |

THE FANFICTION LOVE MEME Because why not.
Also, dear Craigslist job ad people: It does not exactly instill confidence when I have what sounds like an autoreply and amounts to 'click here to apply!' less than 30 seconds after I email. Also, could some of you possibly actually be in this area, upon further Googling? Plague is mostly gone, but not quite entirely, yet. It's down to a Cough of Annoying. In brighter news: THINKGEEK CATALOG IN THE MAIL. Also, I am on to my Yule assignment and it is fun. |

[Nov. 29th, 2009|01:55 pm] |
Have engaged in some flist clean-up. Seemed like it was time; it's largely nothing personal. If you still want to read, you're not likely to miss much, since I generally don't lock things. Friday was... actually pretty quiet, by the time I got to work. I'll take that. I feel less full of Fail on the job-hunt front; seems three-quarters of Harvard grads from my year are having trouble finding jobs. So some of it's just that I graduated at a Very Bad Time. (Yeah, I still need to work on my job-hunt ethic on the whole, but it's not all me. XD) Incidentally, if anyone's got recommendations of things that've worked for them, I'd appreciate it; I think part of my problem is that I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. Have conquered Yulebunny, which will hopefully free up the brainpan to tackle my actual assignment. |

THE HELL, BENGALS, YOU HAD THAT. Seriously, don't taunt me by being good and then suck. (Gratuitous... Tag Post? As I thought of a Cincinnati-things tag.) Work continues apace. Friday's going to be... exciting, I've no doubt. (But I'm not protesting too much, since I'm not going in at five AM. I've actually been working on an original thing! Yulebunnies got sidelined for a bit, as this one has a more urgent deadline if I want to send it in (donation, not paid piece, but... why not try?). And GIP, as I am a shameless enabler of dawning_star's wacky crossovers. |

First, a Very Special Announcement: Miss Yuletide signups? One of your fandoms dubbed too big for consideration? Avoiding it altogether due to other concerns? Just want to write a fic for someone else for Some Winter Holiday Or Other?
hogswatchfic will be opening up in the very near future! Watch that space for details.
In other news, my yuletide assignment shall be great fun, once I get the canon into my head again, and there's another prompt from letter-trawling that I AM SO GOING TO HAVE EPIC FUN WITH. Also, what's this thing where the Bengals are good this year? I don't know what to do with that! (Also also, I need a Cincinnati-things tag.) Since there was a cleaning spree today, I think tomorrow will be a Good Day. |

*Hey, anyone want to set themselves up with an AO3 account? Open beta's launching in the wee hours of tomorrow morning my time, and I have one (1) invite code (ahaha!). *In today's free physics lesson: Turns out two cars still can't occupy the same space at the same time. I'm okay; my involvement went as far as making sure it got called in and taking the long way home. *Basketball season is alive and well! Dad and I went to Miami's exhibition game on Sunday. In conclusion, THIS IS GOING TO BE A GOOD SEASON. *Drowned my headphones last week; the pull-down handle in front of the sink caught them. My replacement pair is v. kickass. *GIP. |

[Oct. 19th, 2009|02:57 pm] |
So Noble Beast is my big music thing of the moment, I think. Finally listened to the whole thing after the concert, and... basically, there is nothing wrong with the world when I have that on. (Also, in Why I Love Andrew Bird: He uses words like 'sociopaths' and 'eviction' and 'fratricide' effortlessly. I heart big words in songs.) I'm having another of my vaguely-tempted-by-Twitter moments. Not sure if I'll give in this time. I need to get my writing groove back, and figure out whether I'm going to try Nano (either in it purest form, where I'd probably try to focus on the Vincenia novel, or as a conglomerate of my November word count). This will take some grokking. |
